Working for World Cancer Research Fund
I joined WCRF UK in early 2001 and having worked my way up through a number of fundraising positions, including heading up the fundraising department for a few years, now oversee all the activities of WCRF UK. In this role, as well as maintaining oversight of fundraising programmes, I work closely with colleagues in the education, communications, supporter services, science and operations teams to ensure that our charity continues to carry out its mission. My background is in marketing so it's great to be able to use my skills and knowledge for such a worthwhile cause. I am very proud to have been given the opportunity to lead and promote WCRF UK's work. I love my job and am pleased to say that some of the nicest people I've ever met are based here at WCRF UK, which makes coming to work a very enjoyable prospect.
Teresa, WCRF UK, General Manager
I joined WCRF NL in 2006 and work in the Education and Communication department in the office in Amsterdam. My role is to translate the scientific evidence about cancer prevention into information for the general public and specific target audiences like children and health professionals. I produce the quarterly newsletter for donors, a variety of booklets and health aids and the digital newsletter for health professionals. I also make sure our website is up to date and contains accurate information. And I manage the children programme. I find my job very rewarding because with our educational material we can help people make choices that can reduce their risk of cancer.
Jessica, Manager, Education
I joined WCRF UK ten years ago and I have enjoyed seeing it grow to become the organisation it has become. The efficient way we deal with supporters and the general public has been maintained throughout these changes, and I feel proud to be a part of the Supporter Services team. Through contact with the positive message that WCRF UK promotes I have changed my own lifestyle during the last ten years. This is an added bonus to the rewards that are obvious by working for a good cause. The work is varied, pay and benefits are competitive and the potential for advancement is always available, indeed encouraged, so I would recommend working for WCRF UK.
Sandy, Deputy Supporter Services Manager
I work in the Supporter Services department, which is customer care in essence. What attracted me to work for WCRF is prevention of cancer and the real breakthrough that there is evidence pointing towards the fact that certain cancers can be prevented with good nutrition and changes in lifestyle. The diet recommendations not only prevent cancer but also help prevent so many other diseases. It always gives me so much pride and joy when people ask me where I work, and the answer is WORLD CANCER RESEARCH FUND!
Nisa, Supporter Services Team Leader
I joined WCRF International in 2005 to work on the development and launch of the 2007 Expert Report. I oversee the science and web areas for all WCRF countries. The job is very varied and no two days are ever the same! The science and research that we fund, together with our major projects such as the Expert Report, Policy Report and Continuous Update projects, informs our education programmes and there are close links between the science department and other departments such as education and fundraising. Our websites are a key communications tool for all our network countries. What attracted me to work at WCRF International was the positivity and optimism of its core message – that cancer can be prevented.
Kate, Director, Science and Communications
My role at WCRF UK is really interesting, as the fundraising assistant I get to work on all areas of fundraising, supporting the whole team on a day-to-day basis. I really enjoy the diversity of my position and I am pleased that I have the opportunity to learn so much. The atmosphere in the office is always relaxed and friendly, everyone is encouraged to share their ideas and support one another. I am proud to be part of WCRF UK as I know that the work we all do is making a real difference in the fight to prevent cancer.
Lucy, Fundraising Assistant
I joined WCRF UK in August 2010 as part of the Education team managing the Newsletter Programme. My role involves putting together the Newsletter, which goes out to over 200,000 people, as well as developing new publications that educate people about cancer prevention. My job is very creative and rewarding and I get to work closely with all the different departments at WCRF UK. As well as knowing I’m working for a worthwhile organization, one of the main things I love about working here is working within an amazing team of hardworking and dedicated people in a fun and supportive environment.
Lucie, Newsletter Programme Manager
I initially joined WCRF UK as a Graphic Designer and was later employed
within the Education department in the role of Children's Publication and
Web Officer where I am responsible for the Great Grub Club magazine and
website. I am also involved in the outreach side of the programme. I really
enjoy working on such a variety of projects, learning and developing new
skills whilst also continuing to employ my graphic design expertise. Being a
mother myself, I took the Great Grub Club to heart as I understand the
importance of promoting healthy living to children and their families. I
have lots of respect for the work that is carried out by WCRF, and really
admire the amount of work people put into producing informative materials
that are scientifically accurate but also practical and accessible.Sabrina, Children's Publications and Web Officer
