CUP Database
Updating the database
The first step is to update the central database of evidence by inputting the study details of papers published since 2006.
A rolling programme has been set up to do this and to date the database has been updated for cancers of the breast, prostate, colorectum, pancreas, ovary and endometrium. All these cancers continue to be updated - and more cancers are being added. The next cancers to be updated are cancers of the kidney and bladder.
By August 2011 nearly 900 papers from cohort studies had been added the CUP database since 2007.
A new section in the database for research on cancer survivors has been developed. Papers on breast cancer survivors are currently being added.
Other work in progress in 2012
Work is underway to review the updated evidence on pancreatic cancer, and a report is due to be published by the end of the year, alongside a WCRF/AICR summary.
A Mechanisms Protocol Development Committee has been convened to produce a template protocol for systematic reviews of animal and human mechanistic studies in relation to food, nutrition, physical activity and the development and progression of different cancers.
