Continuous Update Project
The WCRF global network is committed to interpreting scientific evidence in the field of food, nutrition, physical activity, weight management and cancer.
To keep the evidence current and updated into the future, WCRF/AICR is undertaking the Continuous Update Project in collaboration with a team led by Dr Teresa Norat at Imperial College London (ICL).
The Continuous Update Project is ongoing and builds on the work of the Second Expert Report. Following the same principles as the Second Expert Report, the team at Imperial College London collates the evidence and a panel of experts reviews this to draw conclusions and make recommendations.
The goals of the Continuous Update Project are to:
- Provide the scientific community with comprehensive and up-to-date evidence related to food, nutrition, physical activity, and weight management, and cancer.
- Become a trusted source used by scientists, health professionals and policy makers.
- Ensure WCRF/AICR education resources for the general public are based on the most up to date evidence.
The WCRF global network has a long-term commitment to the Continuous Update Project, which benefits research institutions around the globe. All 20 cancer sites reviewed in the original 2007 Report are being updated on a rolling basis.
Once this process is complete, the database which underpins the project will be made available to the wider scientific community to promote more research in the area worldwide.
Researchers in all countries will be able to access a comprehensive and state of the art resource based on a live system of scientific data. It will be possible to interrogate and utilise the data to investigate the relationship between diet, physical activity, obesity and cancer.
In the meantime, the database, as it develops, is available to researchers on request as the information is being continuously analysed.
