Liaison visits

Liaison visits are an integral part of the grant management process. WCRF International may arrange a liaison visit with the Principal Investigator (PI) to discuss the progress of the research project in the second, third or fourth year of the grant period.

Liaison visits provide an opportunity for WCRF International to monitor the progress of the grant, discuss any issues, build relationships with grant holders and identify new opportunities. This is achieved specifically by discussing grant related issues, understanding the reasons for any unfunded extensions, establishing plans for the dissemination of the results in peer reviewed journals, conferences and for effective co-ordination of press releases.

Each liaison visit usually includes a brief introduction by the PI (or by the institution’s Director or the Head of the PI’s Department) about the department and/or the institution, an introduction by a senior member of the WCRF International science team about the WCRF global network science and research activities, followed by the PI(s) presentations on the WCRF funded projects.

During the second part of the liaison WCRF International staff meet with the individual PI(s) to discuss the progress of the grant in more detail. Occasionally, WCRF staff from different departments such as Education, Fundraising, Communications and Supporter Services may attend the liaison visits.
