Our policy activities
WCRF International’s policy activities build on the report Policy and Action for Cancer Prevention published in 2009. The report can be downloaded at WCRF’s diet and cancer website and includes evidence-informed policy recommendations for cancer prevention.
WCRF International’s policy and public affairs activities aim to build upon the recommendations in the policy report to influence policy at all levels of society. In so doing, we aim to impact positively on cancer prevention throughout the world. WCRF International drives policy and advocacy activities on behalf of the WCRF network of four cancer charities.
WCRF International was significantly involved in policy activities in the lead up to the UN High-Level Meeting on Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs), held in September 2011. Much of WCRF International’s current work s associated with follow-up activities to the High-Level Meeting.
WCRF International actively engages with other civil society organisations in influencing change, such as:
- the International Union for Cancer Control (UICC), including through the Together We are Stronger campaign.
- the NCD Alliance, including through chairing the NCDA Working Group on Nutrition in the lead up to the UN High Level Meeting.
- other UK-based NGOs concerned with prevention, including though the preparation of consultation responses.
- through membership of the European Public Health Alliance
