Every year on 4 February, World Cancer Day empowers all of us to unite and rally under one banner of cancer in a positive and inspiring way. Here is a snapshot of what some of our supporters will do to tackle the global burden of cancer.

Fabian Bolin“I am a cancer survivor and I will use my experience to unite people in the WarOnCancer.”

Fabian Bolin was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2015, aged 28. He founded WarOnCancer to empower others affected by the disease. Through their work, Fabian and his team help fund our research.

Marion Foreman“I am a personal trainer and I will do all I can to ensure people know that there are lifestyle changes that can help prevent cancer.”

Marion Foreman is one of our Cancer Prevention Champions. She has over 40 years of nursing experience and uses our cancer prevention and survival health information to help people living with cancer.

Feisal Mustapha“I am a policymaker and I will create change.”

Feisul Mustapha works for the Ministry of Health in Malaysia to prevent and control non-communicable diseases (NCDs) through public health, with a special focus on diabetes and obesity. He is also a member of our Policy Advisory Group, which advises how we can more effectively implement policy actions to prevent cancer.

Doris Chan“I am a committed researcher and I will advance the evidence base for cancer prevention and survivorship.”

Doris Chan is one of the researchers at Imperial College London who maintain a database of research on diet, nutrition, physical activity and cancer. This project, known as the Continuous Update Project, is funded by us and is the evidence base for our Cancer Prevention Recommendations.

Alexandra“I am Alexandra and I will spend less time in front of the TV and more time playing sport.”

Alexandra is seven years old. Our research shows that being physically active protects against cancers of the colon, breast and endometrium, and that it helps prevent excess weight gain. Conversely, screen time increases the risk of weight gain, overweight and obesity in children. We are part of an EU-funded project, CO-CREATE, which aims to reduce childhood obesity by working with young people to create policy actions promoting healthier environments.
