Sharing ideas on healthy people and a healthy planet

WCRFI Science and Policy teams were in Prague this week for a conference on behaviour change

10 June 2019

The International Society of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity (ISBNPA) hosts an annual conference that focuses on advancing behaviour change science. This year, the theme was "Healthy people. Healthy planet", and we were very excited to attend and host a World Cancer Research Fund International stand.

We were also involved with talks and presentations. On Wednesday, our Director of Research, Dr Giota Mitrou, was on the discussion panel for a symposium on: Promoting sustainable behavioural, nutrition and physical activity interventions in healthcare settings – tackling challenges of health professional gatekeeping. Dr Anna Diaz Font, our Head of Research Funding, gave a presentation on our grant programme and some of the research we have recently funded. Anna and Charlotte Constable Fernandez, our Research Funding Officer, took over our Twitter account to give people live updates of the conference.

Fiona Sing, our Policy and Public Affairs Manager, gave a presentation on: Policy action to create healthier environments – using policy frameworks and databases to promote healthy diets, physical activity and reduce overweight and obesity. Her talk highlighted our NOURISHING framework.

It was a very interesting and educational conference, and helped to further our goal of changing behaviour by creating healthier environments. It also provided a great opportunity to catch up with some of our Academy Fellows, including Dr Christina Pollard from the class of 2012, as well as Prof TH Lam, one of our Hong Kong ambassadors.
