Recipes for children

Cooking is a great way for children to learn about healthy eating while developing essential life skills. Starting young allows them to become familiar with a wide range of foods, especially fruit and vegetables, making healthier choices easier as they grow up.

Our Eat Move Learn recipes for young chefs use simple instructions and child-friendly methods. Look out for Mixer’s picture to find recipes that are perfect for young cooks. While these recipes are designed for children to help cook and enjoy eating, adult supervision in the kitchen is always recommended.

Many of Mixer’s recipes are available as a PDF to download and print, with step-by-step photos, making it easy for children to follow along.

All our recipes are designed to be low in fat, sugar and salt, while including plenty of fruit and vegetables. Children have unique nutritional needs, and we address these in the following ways:

No added sugars

We use natural sugars found in fruit, vegetables, yoghurt and milk, and avoid added sugars (such as sugar and honey) that can contribute to tooth decay.

Towards 5 A DAY

Each recipe includes at least 1 portion of fruit or vegetables, helping children eat at least 5 A DAY.

No calorie information

Our recipes adhere to nutritional guidelines, but we focus on promoting healthy eating habits rather than calorie counting. For this reason, we only show how many portions of fruit or vegetables are in each recipe, and not the other nutritional information that you’ll find on our recipes designed for adults.

Portion sizes

We use portion sizes based on the School Food Standards recommended by the UK Department for Education, ensuring they are appropriate for children.
