Ingredients
- ½ x 400g can (or 1 x 200g can) reduced-salt and -sugar baked beans
- 2 slices wholemeal bread
- 10g reduced-fat spread
- 30g reduced-fat or lighter cheddar cheese, grated
Method
- Heat the beans on the hob, following the packet instructions, until the tomato sauce has thickened. Alternatively you can drain off some of the sauce so it’s not too wet.
- While the beans cook, lightly toast the bread and then add a thin layer of spread to each slice before topping with the grated cheese. Place under a preheated grill until the cheese starts to melt.
- Remove from the grill and spoon the beans onto one slice, before topping with the other slice of toasted bread. Enjoy!
Time savers
If you have a toastie maker, simply add a thin layer of spread to both slices of bread. Pop one slice into the preheated maker – spread side-down – spoon over the drained beans and top with grated cheese before adding the second slice of bread and closing the maker. Cook until the bread is toasted and the cheese has melted.
