Getting ready
You will need:
- 2 sheets of coloured A4 paper
- 4 sheets of different coloured tissue paper (for example orange, red, green and blue)
- scissors
- sticky tape
- pencil
- self-adhesive googly eyes
- 2 pieces of string about 30cm long
- a stick about 40cm long
How to play
- First, fold 1 piece of A4 paper in half along the longest edge and cut on the folded line. Use 1 of the 2 pieces of paper to make a tube shape by gently rolling it and then secure it with some tape.
- Now, draw 2 fins on the other piece of A4 paper. Cut them out and stick them to the bottom of the tube with some tape.
- Cut 2 strips from each piece of coloured tissue paper, about 3cm wide and 40cm long. Stick them with some tape to the inside of the tube, leaving them to stream out like a tail. Then, stick on the googly eyes at the other end. If you don’t have any, you can always draw the eyes on!
- Next, take one of the pieces of string and secure each end with some tape at the front of the windsock to make a handle. Then tie the other piece of string to the handle at one end and to the stick at the other.
- Your rainbow fish windsock is ready! Take it for a run next time you go to the park and see its colourful tail dancing through the air.
- Why not make more than one fish windsock? You can use them to play our rainbow fish relay game.
Rainbow fish relay game
You will need:
- 4 or more players in teams of 2
- a fish windsock per team
- anything you have at hand to mark the start, half way and finishing lines (for example pieces of string, twigs or stones)
How to play
- One player from each team lines up behind the start line while the other team member lines up behind the half way line.
- At the signal, the player at the start line runs as quickly as possible towards the other team member and passes the windsock to them.
- The other player then runs on towards the finishing line. The team that reaches the finishing line first wins. The more players you have, the better. That way, the race will last longer and it will be more fun!
