Play the balloon game
An easy way to play indoor tennis, volleyball or handball.
Ever played volleyball with a balloon? Well, here’s your chance! It’s so much fun and you can play it in the school hall, in your lounge/sitting room or even outside if the weather is dry. You just need a couple of friends or if you have brothers or sisters, you could ask them.
You don’t need much for this game, but you will need some help from an adult to set it up.
So are you ready? Do you think you can win?
Getting ready
Move anything out of the way that could be knocked over or make you trip or fall.
You will need:
- A couple of balloons – ask an adult to blow them up for you.
- A piece of string or anything that can make a net. It needs to be at least 1 metre long, so you can easily see it, but it may need to be longer if you are using a bigger space.
- One half of the room for one person/team and the other half for your opponent.
- Lots of energy!
How to play
- Lay the string on the floor down the centre of the room to create the net. This should create 2 halves – 1 for each team or player.
- Ask an adult to blow up balloons. You only need 1 for the game, but a spare is helpful if it pops.
- Check that your space is clear and there is nothing in your way.
- If there are more than 2 of you, pick your teams. If you are in a small space, 1 person on each side is enough. Don’t leave anyone out and make sure you take it in turns. It’s all about having fun!
- The aim of the game is to hit the balloon to the other side without it touching the floor. If the balloon touches the floor on your side, or if you don’t get it over the string / net, the other team wins a point. The first team to 10 points is the winner.
- Ready, set, play!
