Cancer Prevention Action Week

Helping people make sense of health information and focus on what really matters for cancer prevention

Cancer Prevention Action Week (CPAW) is an annual campaign led by the World Cancer Research Fund.

It raises awareness of cancer prevention and supports people to make informed, evidence-based choices about their health.

Each year, the campaign focuses on key issues shaping how people understand and act on health advice.

Why it matters

Here’s a fact worth shouting about: 4 in 10 cancer cases in the UK are preventable. Four. In. Ten!!

That’s our mission in a nutshell – making sure everyone knows what raises cancer risk, and what can help stop it in its tracks.

Cancer Prevention Action Week is our moment to turn up the volume. A week for raising awareness, making noise, and influencing policymakers, partners and the public on the issues shaping our health – so we can all live longer, healthier lives, free from the devastating impact of cancer.

And the results? They speak for themselves.

In 2025, our Alcohol and Cancer: Let’s Talk campaign shone a spotlight on the link between alcohol and cancer – and the country listened. Our media campaign made headlines across the country with nearly 3,000 people signing our petition calling for a national alcohol strategy. We engaged 26 parliamentarians, joined forces with 8 alcohol-related organisations who amplified our messages, and worked with dozens of influencers to bring it straight to your feed.

And the headline win? A UK government commitment to mandatory alcohol labelling – so you can make informed choices about what’s in your glass.

In 2024, our Make Your Move campaign shared promising UK data showing that even tiny amounts of activity can dramatically reduce your cancer risk. Movement, for every body.

And in 2023, we revealed that more than half of Brits had no idea that eating processed meat is linked to bowel cancer – kicking off conversations we’re still building on today.

Cancer Prevention Action Week 2026 is on its way. Join us — and let’s turn knowledge into action.
